Our next concert is our Annual Gala Concert on 2 October at Ecclesall Church, for which we have several new-to-the-Choir pieces to prepare. No slacking for choir members over the summer!

The Choir appeared at a concert at Sheffield Cathedral on Friday 16 July.

This was a fundraising event to support the Cathedral Archer Project and the Sheffield M.E.Group and was presented by BBC Radio Sheffield’s Rony Robinson.

Also appearing in this concert were Dronfield Handbell Ringers, Max (a gifted young singer-songwriter) and special guest Ray Hearne.

This was a fine event to perform in, with a good audience, a wonderful venue, a nice contrast between the various acts, and a worthwhile cause. Some photos of the Choir at the event have kindly been provided by the Sheffield M.E. Group.

The Choir, and Dore and Totley Townswomen’s Guild Choir, sang in the Church Hall as part of the annual Dore Festival on 8 July. A packed house – as always for this concert! –heard a wide range of material, including the Soldiers’ Chorus from Gounod’s Faust, Two Little Boys, and Rhythm Of Life. We sang Yesterday – the Townswomen’s Guild Choir sang Michelle. A most enjoyable event!

Our concert on 4 June at Christ Church Dore was in aid of the Church’s Development and Organ Fund. It was our first concert with our new Music Director, Elizabeth Hampshire, and was well attended. Greg Bish (guitar), our guest artist, played classical, folk and pop pieces, and sang, and was very well received. Our thanks also, as always, to our excellent accompanist, Adrian Jordan.

Paul Green retired as our Music Director at the end of April after 10 years of dedicated service. Our new Music Director is Elizabeth Hampshire. See here for more information.

Adrian Jordan stepped in as Conductor at our April concert at St Oswald’s Church, Sheffield, following Paul Green’s recent indisposition, and Mary Cobbold provided piano accompaniment. The Choir owe Adrian and Mary a big debt of gratitude for all their hard work over recent months.

Paul Green was present at the concert (his last as Music Director). He played some scintillating piano duets with Adrian, accompanied Roger Glew’s entertaining ukulele tunes on piano, and gave a valediction. The last two pieces Paul chose for the Choir to sing were “Softly As I Leave You” and “My Way”.

The Rotary concert at Ranmoor Church on 27 February, where Dore Male Voice Choir and Ensemble 360 performed, raised over £3000 for the final push to eradicate polio from the world.

We went on tour to Cyprus in October (see the photo above). Members of Wigston and South Yorkshire Police Choirs joined us. The Choir, conducted by Paul Green and with accompaniment by Mary Cobbold, performed at three concerts, and a very enjoyable time was had by all.
