Elizabeth Hampshire became the Music Director of Dore Male Voice Choir in 2010.

Elizabeth comes from a musical family. Three generations, including grandfather, uncles and cousins, have sung in Mousehole MVC, Cornwall, from 1920 to the present day.

She studied at Kesteven College, Nottingham University, and taught music in schools, including school choirs, instrumental groups and soloists, for more than 40 years. She staged many school musical productions, including “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat” and “The Daniel Jazz”, and was also a fine accompanist. She also gave private lessons in piano, singing, recorder and music theory, helping many young musicians gain excellent results in the Associated Board exams.

Elizabeth was in demand as a recitalist for more than 20 years, performing at the Royal Albert Hall, the City Hall in Sheffield, and many cathedrals, churches and village halls.

Elizabeth was the accompanist and deputy Music Director for Houghton Main MVC for 20 years. In 1996 she became the accompanist for Worrall MVC but within a year was offered the post of Music Director. She made several overseas tours with Worrall, including a memorable visit to Spain in 2000 where the choir sang in the Monastery Church at Montserrat and at Barcelona Cathedral.

She led Worrall to a wonderful first place, against stiff competition from Welsh and English Choirs, in the Welsh Choir of the Year competition in 2003.

Ill health caused Elizabeth to retire from Worrall, but thanks to the great skill of doctors at Northern General and Weston Park hospitals she is now ready to work again. She was “thrilled beyond words” when she was invited to apply for the post of MD for Dore MVC, and says that being offered the post is a dream come true.

Elizabeth is married to Stuart and they live in Sheffield.

Paul Green (centre), our former Music Director is of course an ideal accompanist to replace Adrian Jordan (left), who has recently retired from the Choir, as many in our audiences will know, having heard him play in our concerts and rehearsals from time to time. As David Heslop, our Chairman, said, we can hardly say “welcome back Paul”, the fellow hasn’t really been away!
